Due to the prevalent health education disparity in the inland empire, in the event of public health emergency, most citizens do not know how to respond effectively. Our group will educate the public in efforts to mitigate the bystander effect by increasing knowledge on basic trauma care in effort to prepare community members to respond to health emergencies. If successful, we will help the community become better prepared for health emergencies, reduce incidents of death, and reduce the number of emergency room visits. However, we will recommend that a health professional is seen and encourage the public to educate themselves by doing their own research as well. We aspire to educate the community on how to effectively respond in the event of a health emergency. To do so, we will educate on the topics of CPR, wound care, and provide resources available to the public about where to become CPR/First Aid/AED certified. Moreover, we will gather tutorials and videos with example scenarios on how to respond to health emergencies in public situations.

Stephanie Chavez
Greetings, friends! My name is Stephanie Chavez and I am a Kinesiology major at Southwestern Community College, hoping to transfer to UC Riverside. I aspire to become a Lady Doc in Orthopedics! The ABC of first aid is a mnemonic designed to help people remember how to respond to an emergency situation in which someone is injured. The letters stand for Airway, Breathing, and Circulation, also referred to as the vital signs. If all of the vital signs are monitored and addressed, an individual has a much better chance of surviving until trained help arrives. I believe that if each of us do our best in learning from our peers, we will always be one step closer to the betterment of the health and education of our community. I am grateful for this rewarding opportunity to learn and educate. Thank you, FPL!

Raquel Elias

My ultimate goal is to integrate a more holistic approach to medicine in incorporating healthier lifestyle habits as well as taking preventative measures to becoming a healthier person. Our work as FPLs is important because if we can inspire one community member to become CPR/First-Aid certified, that can save a life. I am lucky to have been given the opportunity by FPL to start my journey in giving back to the community.

Diamond Centeno
My name is Diamond Centeno, I am currently a biochemistry major at California State University San Marcos. My goals for the future are to go to medical school and become an Anesthesiologist. Lucas Santos
I am a high school graduate from Cathedral Catholic, I’m passionate about the sciences and medicine. Despite my younger age I am a licensed Certified Nursing Assistant with several hours of experience and with a paper being published on the effects of quarantine on the stress of teenagers.
